The 2017 MXGP series made a visit to the Crossdromo Internacional de Águeda facility in Portugal over the weekend for Round 12 of the circuit. Visiting Agueda for the first time since the last GP held there in 2014, the riders were greeted with the classic hardpack racing surface although the track layout has been changed slightly.

Saturday brought the MXGP Qualifying Race and HRC’s Tim Gajser looked to get the weekend off to a strong start after struggling through injury in his return to racing in Ottobiano last week. After a strong start he was able to push through the pain to 5th place to set himself up nicely for Sunday’s races. Gautier Paulin finished 10th and Evgeny Bobryshev salvaged a 15th as he continues to ride through injury as well.

The first MXGP moto on Sunday brought a challenging task for all of our athletes as Gajser was 8th, Bobryshev 11th and Paulin 12th. Gajser looked to turn things around in the second moto when he flew out of the starting gate and grabbed the holeshot, leading the field out onto the circuit. Some mistakes early on in the race cost him a few positions and he slipped back to eventually finish 6th for 6th Overall on the weekend. We can see that the Slovenian is beginning to get back to his old form and should be standing atop the podium in the very near future. Bobryshev was 9th, giving him 10th Overall on the weekend and Paulin was 11th which gave him 12th Overall.

HRC MX2 fill-in rider Anthony Rodriguez scored the first top 10 finish of his MXGP career with an 8th Overall for the weekend.
